This is a case of good local control. I think they made a great call. I only wish they had more wiggle room to do what is best for our kids and our schools.WKHhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11140488043949689706noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8806820697247097901.post-4205952060897401822011-04-28T09:39:41.672-06:002011-04-28T09:39:41.672-06:00@Jared: Utah State School Board: http://www.school...@Jared: Utah State School Board: http://www.schools.utah.gov/board/Board-Members.aspx

Yes, a targeted implementation would be better.WKHhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11140488043949689706noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8806820697247097901.post-60653772036559056762011-04-28T09:33:11.243-06:002011-04-28T09:33:11.243-06:00This is really important. I know you said you are...This is really important. I know you said you are not opposed to the Common Core Curriculum, per se, but this is what it leads to. We must get our state to reject any federal involvement in education in Utah. School Boards (including the state board) are becoming more and more irrelevant.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8806820697247097901.post-75141685918235838542011-04-28T09:28:58.859-06:002011-04-28T09:28:58.859-06:00There were so many red flags with this, I am supri...There were so many red flags with this, I am suprised Utah bought into this. The state adopted it because it wanted the money. Any time there are Federal dollars involved we should ask ourselves "what liberties will we be losing?" When Texas and Alaska opted out, that should have been a huge clue! The fact that this was so secret that no one knew we were adopting it until too late is another big clue. The fact that one of the works consulted is named "Mathematics and Democracy, The case for Quantitative Literacy" should have been a warning. Nobody was researching, but everyone was too trusting. I tried to make people aware when I found out. 3 days before it closed for public comment was when I found out about this. I called our legislature; he didn't even know about it. Our school wasn't concerned, Carl Wimmer was unaware, the governor's office did't have a clue and Donna Barnes said "that will never happen in Utah". We teach our children at home now and use a private school to suppliment. However, I am still concerned about the control that this will give the Federal government to indoctrinate the children. If we don't think that is what the purpose of the program is, then we are very ignorant. If you are interested in a list of the works consulted for this program, I printed it out when I found it, but it is no longer available online at the site I went to (another clue). Contact Tim Irwin or go to the luncheon he invited you to and I will be there. The answer is unknown, but this much is known for sure.
Since the two consortia are funded with Federal money, they will, therefore, reflect the current goals of the US Dept. of Education. Those goals have already been well documented in Iserbyt's great book, The Deliberate Dumbing Down of America. Therefore, they shouldn't be entrusted with the education of our children.

Hart and Hill are to be congratulated for their untiring efforts to bring some sanity into the ASD in spite of the uphill struggle they face.
As the old Latin saying goes,
"Non illegitimi carborundum."
Or, "Don't let those (fill in the blank) wear you down."pawnderhttp://kenbowers.blogspot.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8806820697247097901.post-44678655625011152292011-04-28T08:52:06.487-06:002011-04-28T08:52:06.487-06:00Wendy, thank you, this is important. Eek!

How do we get in touch with the state school board, to ask them to delay implementation of the Obama/Darling-Hammond (ahem, "Common") Core, at the very least until the tests are finished and can be evaluated by parents groups?Jarednoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8806820697247097901.post-54341919199062571162011-04-28T00:05:48.409-06:002011-04-28T00:05:48.409-06:00Thank you for posting this Wendy.
